Life at Abbeyfield Hoylake & West Kirby is never dull. We believe in creating a vibrant, community-centric living environment where our residents can enjoy new experiences, connect with nature and share joyful moments. And last week, we had some very special guests who brought a whole new meaning to adaptable care – of the scaly, furry and feathered variety!
The fantastic team from A-Z Safari Party paid a visit to our residential care home, bringing along a host of fascinating animals. Our residents had the chance to meet Crempog the meerkat, Tiny the sulcata tortoise, Casper the cockatoo, Winnie the dumbo rat, Sheldon the baby tortoise and Monty the royal python snake! It was an afternoon filled with curiosity, laughter and a fair bit of bravery as everyone got up close to these incredible creatures.

Bringing the Wild to West Kirby
At Abbeyfield Lear House, we know that engaging activities are at the heart of delivering the highest quality care. Animal therapy is a wonderful way to boost well-being, reduce stress and spark lively conversations. Watching the residents’ faces light up as they stroked a meerkat or marvelled at the slow and steady movements of Tiny the tortoise was simply priceless.
Casper the cockatoo had the whole room in stitches with his playful antics, while Monty the royal python proved to be surprisingly popular – even with those who claimed to be a little squeamish! And of course, Winnie the dumbo rat melted hearts with her tiny paws and inquisitive nature.

More Than Just a Care Home
At Abbeyfield Hoylake & West Kirby, we pride ourselves on being more than just a residential care home. We create opportunities for our residents to engage with the wider Wirral community, take part in unique experiences and enjoy a true sense of companionship. Events like these show how adaptable care can be – providing stimulating, meaningful moments that enhance everyday life.
For those who need a short stay, our respite care and replacement care services ensure that visitors can enjoy the same enriching activities and warm atmosphere as our long-term residents. Whether someone is with us for a few weeks or years, they’re part of our family.

The Importance of Community-Centric Living
Care isn’t just about meeting basic needs – it’s about making every day special. Our team at Abbeyfield Lear House works hard to bring engaging experiences to our residents, ensuring they continue to enjoy learning, socialising and embracing new things.
Whether it’s meeting fascinating animals, enjoying music performances or celebrating local events, we’re committed to delivering the highest quality care with a personal touch. Round the clock care doesn’t mean life slows down – it means there’s always someone there to support, encourage and create moments of joy.
We’re already looking forward to our next big event – but for now, we’ll be reminiscing about our wonderful visit from the A-Z Safari Party. Who knew a meerkat could bring so much happiness to Hoylake?
